Grant McCann has completed his first signing as Doncaster Rovers boss after snapping up Scottish midfielder Ali Crawford.

The 26-year-old has signed a two-year deal at the Keepmoat after leaving Scottish Premiership side Hamilton Academical at the end of last season.

Crawford was keen on a move to England this summer and says he was attracted to Rovers by the style of play McCann hopes to implement.

"The manager had a lot to do with me signing for the club," Crawford said.

"The way he was talking about how he wants to play, the open and expansive play, the attacking football which is my style.

“It is good to know that he wanted me here and get me involved with the squad quite quickly.

"I am an attacking midfielder who likes to get on the ball and make things happen.

“I scored quite a few free-kicks last season, created a lot from dead ball situations which I think I am quite good at, and I just generally like to get on the ball as much as I can.”

Crawford spent 11 years with Hamilton, making 295 appearances and scoring 39 goals. He reached double figures in goals in two seasons in the Scottish top flight.

And he felt the time was right to make the move to English football.

“I was there for 11 years so it was long overdue to experience something new," he said.

"I have always wanted to come down to England and see if I could make it.

“Doncaster were the right fit for me and hopefully I can have a good season here.

"The manager said there’s always improvement left in every player and I am excited to see what is in store.

“The manager said it is good to get me in as early as he can, getting a few games in before the season actually starts, and it will be good to get to know the boys as well.”

Crawford joins Tom Anderson and Max Watters in signing for Rovers this summer.
