The pair have both failed to progress this season at Rovers, despite increased attention on the U23 group.

Both players were due to reach the end of their contracts at the end of the season and were not in boss Darren Moore’s plans.

Releasing the pair in January allows them to find new clubs before the end of the season.

Forward Longbottom made 12 senior appearances for Rovers, scoring one goal, following his debut in May 2016. He had made the matchday squad on 18 occasions this season but played just one game in the Leasing.com Trophy. The 21-year-old signed professional terms in January 2017 before agreeing a two-and-a-half year extension a year later.

Versatile midfielder Prior, 20, made three senior appearances, all coming in the EFL Trophy. He has not been involved under Darren Moore this season.
