The two bids were of a similar value but neither came close to matching Rovers’ valuation of the 24-year-old, and reports of an imminent departure for Whiteman are wide of the mark.

It is understood that Preston North End and Queens Park Rangers are the two clubs to have lodged bids, and one has likely been dissuaded from following up their offer.

The club’s stance with all players is they will not stand in the way of anyone who wants to leave, provided Rovers receive adequate financial compensation.

As the situation stands, the club are not close to being satisfied by the offers that have been made for the skipper.

While still some way off, the bids are understood to be closer to the valuation than those made by Barnsley in the summer.
