An agreement in principle has been reached with a Premier League club over the loan signing of a highly rated young striker and a deal could be completed in time for him to be part of the squad to face Shrewsbury Town on January 7.

Rovers are also understood to have submitted multiple offers for other potential signings, and the hope is deals can be done sooner rather than later, particularly for a pair of forwards.

Players signed on January 1 will be ineligible to feature for their new clubs on that day, while Rovers have a blank weekend ahead due to scheduled opponents Portsmouth's continued involvement in the FA Cup.

One senior Rovers players is set to depart the club early in the window, with a transfer agreed to a League Two side for a nominal fee.

The player in question, whose contract will expire in the summer, has found himself on the fringes of Darren Moore's squad and is keen to secure more playing time with his next move.

His place in the squad is set to be filled by the Premier League loanee who has an excellent scoring record for his club at age group level. He has made one senior appearance and been an unused substitute in the top flight on several occasions.

The teenager has also scored regularly at age group level for his national team.
