Reports in the south west claim a loan deal for the 21-year-old has been agreed and will go through at the end of the month.

However, a Rovers spokesperson said he is unaware of such an agreement.

New boss Grant McCann has favoured a 4-3-3 system in pre-season and has focused his recruitment on attacking players.

Ali Crawford is expected to add goals from midfield and new loan signing Mallik Wilks has been lauded by McCann for his ‘in-behind pace’.

Former Peterborough United, Ipswich Town and Bradford City striker Paul Taylor is currently on trial with Rovers.

McCann also hopes to hold onto key man John Marquis who has been the subject of bids from Peterborough, Aberdeen and an unnamed Championship club.

City are keen for McCoulsky to gain more experience out on loan after a successful spell at League Two Newport County last season.

He scored 11 goals in 24 games for the Welsh outfit, including a memorable winner against Leeds United in a televised FA Cup clash, before being diagnosed with pericarditis, a heart condition, in April.

During the 2016/17 campaign McCoulsky scored eight times in 14 games for Bath City and found the net seven times in 12 matches during a similar spell at Weston-super-Mare.

According to Bristol Live, McCoulsky is poised to join Rovers at the end of July and the club and player are all in agreement.

However, Rovers distanced themselves from those reports when we contacted the club earlier today.
