Doncaster Rovers are poised to unveil a new signing early this week, according to manager Grant McCann.

The Rovers boss expects a midfielder to join prior to Tuesday night's friendly with Frickley Athletic - a game in which he plans to field at least one trialist.

And he is confident further signings will follow.

"There is progress," he said.

"Hopefully we'll have one in the building on Monday or Tuesday

"It'll add to us. A midfield player.

"We're pending on another one in an attacking area, but we've hit a few complications on that one.

"We're hoping to have a trialist for Tuesday, someone I know and someone who can light this league up if we can get him fit."

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony confirmed last week that Rovers had made enquiries about a pair of transfer-listed players.

McCann confirmed he has asked about their availability but says he has done so with many players at many clubs.

"It's that time of the year when agents are busy and the phones are always ringing," he said.

"I'd be lying if I said that there wasn't conversations with some agents regarding some of the Peterborough players but they're on the transfer list so isn't that what you're meant to do?

"I've spoken to, not only the Peterborough players, but a lot of players.

"At this time of the year everyone is looking to improve their squad and we're no different."
