Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann answers free agent question

Grant McCann, the Doncaster Rovers manager, says he is unlikely to be scouring the free agent market.

The winter window saw a fair bit of squad churn at DN4, with seven new faces coming into the club. Add in a dearth of injuries and it means McCann and his staff are working with healthy numbers. Last week the club submitted their squad list to the EFL and whilst there is technically still room for the addition of unattached players, it's not something the Northern Irishman foresees happening.

When asked by the Free Press last week, he replied: "No. We haven't even looked at it to be honest with you. It's difficult, the free agent market, unless players have been out and have been training with clubs.

"We had 13 (outfield) players on the training ground this morning plus the ten who were in recovery who started v Burton. So that's 23 players. Plus the three out-on-loan players that we have in Bayley (McCann), Sam (Straughan-Brown) and Kasper (Williams) who all go and train with their loan clubs too.

"So there's 26 professional players in the building plus Frankie (Okoronkwo) and Zander (Clark) - so that's 28. There's a lot of players here and it's a hard job every week picking a bench never mind a team! So I don't need any more distractions as I'd like to keep the focus on what we have."

Rovers head to Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night in the EFL Trophy quarter-finals before a rare, blank weekend. They then resume action with a league game against the Terriers, at home, on Tuesday, February 17.
