Below par Rovers were well beaten by their young visitors, who surged out of sight with an Admiral Muskwe brace and a George Hirst header.

Keen to see a reaction after the poor showing at Gillingham in the FA Cup at the weekend, Moore cut a frustrated figure as he bemoaned another disappointing performance from his side.

“It was just not good enough in terms of the standard set,” Moore said.

“We couldn’t get a foothold in the game, we couldn’t get any momentum in the game.

“It was just a really difficult night and nothing seemed to go for us.

“By the way – it’s no excuses because I give Steve Beaglehole [Leicester U21 boss] credit and his team played really well.

“It was just a really poor showing from us.

“I know you get those but I’m scratching my head in terms of performances that we’ve set this season.

“In this one we never reached anywhere near those high levels of performance which are expected and that we demand of each other here.

“It’s certainly one that will be gone and I’ll certainly look back at it before bed.

“We’ve got to look at it because it’s Thursday and then we’ve got a game on Saturday and we can’t afford a repeat performance.

“We made one or two changes but we’ve worked together as a group to be strong enough to demand something better.”
