However there is a possibility that supporters will be allowed to attend play-off matches, particularly the final, should Rovers be involved.

The play-off final will be held at Wembley on the weekend of May 29. And while semi-final dates have yet to be confirmed, the second legs at least could be held on or after May 17.

The initial plan for the return of crowds to outdoor events will permit a 50 per cent capacity or 4,000 supporters - whichever is lower.

For larger outdoor seated arenas, such as Wembley, up to 10,000 people or a 25 per cent capacity will be permitted.

An EFL spokesperson said: “We look forward to engaging with the government about its pilot programme and will be working to welcome as many fans as possible to the Sky Bet Play-Off Finals which will conclude the 2020/21 season on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.”

Rovers themselves have worked under the assumption that supporters would not be present throughout the 2020/21 season since late 2020.

The last match to take place in front of a crowd at the Keepmoat was on February 29, 2020.
