Centre-back Williams made errors in the build-up to both of Walsall’s goals in Doncaster’s 2-0 defeat on December 2 but was given a vote of confidence by his boss to continue in the starting XI last weekend.
He repaid the faith with one of his best performances of the season as Rovers earned a 1-0 win and their fifth clean sheet of the season in South Wales.

Hide AdSchofield said: “He’s been really positive and vocal in training.
"We spoke about the mistakes. There’s nothing critical about it, it happens.
"He showed his true character against Newport and he’s got a really strong one.”
Charlie Seaman was handed his first start in two months against Newport as Schofield shuffled his pack in Tom Anderson and Joseph Olowu’s absence.

Hide AdRight-back Seaman was told he could leave Rovers on loan this summer but has gradually worked his way back into the fold.
Schofield said: “Charlie has been excellent in training and deserved that start.
“I was concerned with how many minutes we could give him because he’s not had much game-time.
"I was thinking about changing it after 60 minutes but he was good to go and I think he had a really good game.”

Hide AdSeaman cramped up in the closing stages but completed 90 minutes of action.
Schofield added: “Hopefully we get the players back who weren’t there against Newport so it gives me a headache to pick a team to start against Harrogate.”
