Doncaster Rovers: Could Niall Ennis feature against AFC Wimbledon?
Niall Ennis has an outside chance of being fit enough to make his Doncaster Rovers return this weekend for the trip to AFC Wimbledon.
The on-loan Wolverhampton Wanderers striker has been out of action for six weeks after suffering a hamstring strain in the defeat to Manchester United U21s in the Leasing.com Trophy.
He made his return to match action on Tuesday with 45 minutes for Rovers’ U23s in the 3-2 win over Walsall.
And should he show no ill effects from the game, or in training in the later part of this week, Ennis could be part of the squad to travel to Kingsmeadow on Saturday.
“We wanted to give him 45 minutes to get him used to football-specific movements again,” Rovers boss Darren Moore said.
“It was about feeling the ball, getting the touch of the ball, being back in the environment.
“It will have done him the world of good.
“We’ll assess him again.
“You’re always looking for no reactions.
“He’s had the game so when he’s back in later in the week we’ll see how he is.
“You just pick it up from him then and how he’s feeling at the time.
“We’ll make the decision off that one.
“With a view for Saturday?
“We’ll wait and see.
“I’m in the position with him where he’ll only be involved if it is certain that he’s okay and everything is all right.
“Other than that, if he needs another week or so then so be it.”
