Doncaster Rovers boss explains Madger Gomes absence and Josh Sims starting on bench at Plymouth Argyle

Gomes was absent from Rovers’ defeat to Plymouth Argyle after suffering a muscle strain but Moore is confident his absence will not be lengthy.

“We’ll look at Madger, he’s got a great chance for Saturday,” Moore said.

“It was a little strain and I didn’t want to risk him tonight.

“We’ll check on him and Taylor Richards for the weekend.”

Josh Sims started the game on the bench despite making a big impression since his arrival at the club on transfer deadline day.

But having not played competitive football prior to that since early March, Moore felt handing him a third start in seven days would have meant taking a risk with his fitness.

“That would have been his third consecutive match,” he said.

“When you look at the likes of Tyreece [John-Jules] breaking down, Rayhaan [Tulloch] breaking down and Taylor Richards, Madger had a little strain with the volume of games.

“We didn’t want to risk it happening to Josh.

“He’s a high energy player, he’s put a lot into the games so far.

“It was about rotating tonight and bringing Jon Taylor back in. We were pleased he was available.

“Josh is fine and we’ll see him involved on Saturday.”

Sims played the final half hour of the 2-1 defeat at Plymouth.

Tyreece John-Jules and Rayhaan Tulloch continue their recoveries from injury at parent clubs Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion respectively.
