Doncaster Rovers Belles 'frustrated' by fixture gap

The fixture list is not doing Doncaster Rovers Belles any favours, says head coach Zoey Shaw.

Belles have lost their last seven games in all competitions, conceding 34 goals in the process.

Their FAWNL Division One Midlands clash at home to bottom side Burton Albion was postponed at the weekend due to the Brewers’ cup commitments – meaning Doncaster have played just two league games in two months.

Shaw’s side return to action on December 8 at Welsh side The New Saints.

“The girls know that they have a lot to work on between now and our next game,” said Shaw.

“We’ve had a good chat and now we have to start picking them up over the next couple of weeks before we head over to face TNS.

“It’s frustrating for us that we don’t seem to have a good run of games at the minute.

“To have three games in three months isn’t easy for us to find any form at all, we’re looking at friendlies to try and keep us up to speed.

“The girls are all on board with what we want to do.

“They’ve taken responsibility for what happens once they cross the white line on a Sunday, we’re going to put in some good hours over the next couple of weeks to prepare.”

She added: “We just have to keep the girls focused with those friendly games and in training and make sure they’re ready to go.

“We want to keep working hard on what we’ve been doing in training and hopefully we can pick up that win we’ve been looking for.

“We want to get some games locked down in the next couple of weeks so we can put in to practice what we’ve been working at, tying things down in our new strategy and just to build up the confidence of the girls.”
