The Doncaster Rovers squad may have been put through a taxing period but no one at the club has looked forward to a blank midweek than boss Darren Moore.

Rovers completed a run of seven matches in 22 days with Saturday’s defeat at Gillingham.

But they now have four consecutive weeks without midweek matches - and Moore is delighted.

It is not the opportunity to ease off that has the Rovers boss so pleased. On the contrary, Moore is going to up the work rate on the training ground.

“The big thing for me is I’m really pleased this run of fixtures and midweek games has gone because I get to work on my squad,” he said.

“The new players that have come in, we get to do some real work on the training ground which will stand us in good stead going forward.

“I’ll get some time to work with them.

“For us, to see it implemented on the pitch, it comes from the training ground.

“We’ll now get some time to do that.”

Moore has consistently stressed the need for work on the training ground to drill his side in his methods and systems.

A constant run of midweek matches prevents that, with the squad only able to complete recovery and preparation work between fixtures.

The four January signings - Devante Cole, Fejiri Okenabirhie, Jacob Ramsey and Jason Lokilo - have not had a blank midweek since their arrivals and Moore is most keen to work with the new faces.
