Eleven players will see their deals expire in June, including key men such as Joe Wright, Reece James, Brad Halliday and Jon Taylor.

Rovers would, by January, typically have opened at least tentative talks with players they are especially keen to retain.

“Again, you have to remember the situation we’re under is really different,” he said.

“We're just working to what we’ve got and the parameters we have been set.

“The important thing is fulfilling the league fixtures and the programme and that has been the real important issue here.

“In terms of discussing the players’ contracts for the foreseeable future, those won’t be discussed now because it would not be the right time and it would be unfair on the club to do so right now.”

Rovers continue to await news of the extent of the additional funds they will receive from the Premier League bailout package, on top of the initial £375,000.
