John twice turned into his own goal which, along with the sending off of Fejiri Okenabirhie, helped Gillingham turn the tables in the game and secure a 2-1 win.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee – playing at left back in the absence of the injured Reece James – was jeered by the home support at the Priestfield and mocked mercilessly by the stadium announcer.

Moore is confident however that the 20-year-old will suffer no hangover from the difficult outing.

“It’s all part and parcel for him going forward and it will serve him well going forward,” Moore said.

“It will serve him with his understanding and he knows we’ll walk 100 per cent with him.

“He’s quite a confident boy as well.

“In terms of his long career going forward, it will stand him in good stead.

“He’ll be disappointed because it’s probably led to us not getting the points.

“He’s got a lot of football to play for us between now and the end of the season.

“With more games to come it’ll probably serve him good for the rest of the season.”

John diverted into his own net as he tried to keep out a corner which threatened to creep straight in at the near post, aided by horrendous winds.

And then he slammed the ball past Seny Dieng as he looked to cut out a cross in the second half.

Moore believes John can learn plenty from both incidents and expects they will help the defender become a better player.

“He’ll learn from it,” the Rovers boss said.

“When we’re happy to take these younger players. They’ll learn from it so much in terms of going forward.

“It gives us so much in terms of going forward but it’s just a misjudgment.

“He’ll look on it and get positional sense right, he’ll get projection of the ball right, the conditions right - all these things that go into a player in terms of learning and development.”
