The Rovers boss anticipated that there would be opportunities for his full backs to get on the ball and play so handed Amos his first league start of the campaign ahead of John, who has stepped into the left back role since Reece James suffered an injury.

John was not involved in the game at all due to the restriction on having only five loan players in any matchday squad, with Moore opting to name Jason Lokilo in his 18 for the first time.

“It was just what I felt at the time,” Moore said, explaining John’s absence and the selection of Amos.

“I felt we’d get a lot of possession of the ball.

“Danny has an excellent left foot playing forward and a wonderful range of passing.

“I just felt that if we were dominating the game and the ball then Danny would probably be more suited.

“With Reece James’ injury and the type of game I thought it was right for Danny.

“And you’ve also got the loan players. We had five so it was the right time to bring Jason in.”

Moore praised Amos’ performance, saying the 20-year-old stepped up to the challenge.

He said: “He had to feel his way into the game. Playing development football to stepping up to the senior level is a massive step up.

“But Danny has been in with our group and he’s been working every day.

“He’s played in the Leasing.com games and the FA Cup so I said ‘c’mon, let’s step it up now.’

“The situation came up, I told him he was playing and he’s stepped up.“That will do him the world of good. He was up against some difficult customers out there.

“To put him in that magnitude of a game, I thought he did superb and he can feel happy with his performance and his contribution towards getting three valuable points for us.”
