Darren Moore explains Doncaster Rovers team selection at Peterborough
It was a starting XI that raised a few eyebrows but Darren Moore felt he made the right choices for Doncaster Rovers’ trip to Peterborough United.
Moore dropped veteran club captain James Coppinger to the bench for the visit to London Road, opting instead to push Ben Sheaf into the advanced midfield three behind striker Niall Ennis.
Madger Gomes retained his place in the sitting midfield two, alongside Ben Whiteman who returned from a knee injury.
Moore revealed his team selection was made with opponents Peterborough in mind. And after a 3-0 win for his side, the Rovers boss was justified.
“We thought tactically that we got it right playing the two Bens and Madger in there,” Moore said.

Why Doncaster Rovers feel the best is yet to come despite a ‘solid start’
“We wanted to be solid and start the game solid.
“In terms of on the ball as well, we would have some good footballers on the pitch too.
“The idea then was to bring James [Coppinger] on later in the game.
“In terms of the game panning out in the way it did, I’m really delighted in terms of the performance and getting bodies on the pitch a well as getting the game plan right.”
