Darren Moore believes Doncaster Rovers’ recruitment drive will only fully roar into life when Premier League and Championship clubs are all back in training.

Rovers yesterday unveiled Jason Lokilo as their first summer signing, with the former loanee penning a one-year deal.

But Moore believes it may be another week or two before the flow of incomings gathers pace as clubs in the top two tiers fully assess their squads.

“We’re starting again on Monday but they’ll probably be a week or ten days behind us,” Moore told the Free Press.

“They will want to just get back in and get things moving.

“With some of the targets we’re looking at, things are just slow at the moment.

“My main focus is getting the boys back in this week, get them used to football-specific movement, get the camaraderie back and the formalities of new procedures we’re working under, get them out of the way.

“From the 10th of August onwards, you can start looking at that sort of thing because more teams will be back, more managers at the end of a gruelling Premier League season are getting their heads together.

“There’s so much happening now that people just want to get five minutes before they get back on it and build again because they’ve just completed a campaign."

The majority of Premier League and Championship clubs are currently on a break from action with their respective seasons having only finished in the last fortnight.

Moore insists that while confirmation of signings may have to wait, plenty of work is going on to line up targets.

“There’s a lot of phonecalls happening now,” he said. “We’re in daily contact with people.

“You spot and identify the players and you’ve got to keep making the phonecalls because it’s time for people to make decisions.

“It just takes a level of commitment to see them through and get them done.

“It’s the same old one where we’ll just keep working and get those deals in a line.

“It’s going to take a lot of calls and talks to chase things up. We’re doing our bit.”
