Askern Miners FC make winning start as senior football returns in Doncaster
Askern have withdrawn from the Central Midlands League and they joined forces with Askern Miners Junior FC over the summer in an attempt to breathe new life into the club.
And their well-fancied team made the perfect start to the new Premier Division season with a 6-1 win at Dearne & District.

Hide AdSam Corner sent them on their way to a convincing win with a hat trick in the opening 15 minutes. Alex Irwin, Chris Hancock and Ell Mounfield were also on target.
Another fancied team, Armthorpe Welfare Development, bagged a 3-0 success over ISG Doncaster at the Yorkshire Main Miners Welfare in Edlington with Harrison Mercer and Rory Millar (2) on target.
GCT Doncaster B fought back from two goals down against Denaby United but succumbed to a strike from Dean Lucas at Brodsworth MW to lose 3-2.
Goals from Ashley Cantrill and Steve Ellor had put the visitors in control before second half efforts from Kirk and Tomlinson drew the league new boys level.

Hide AdElsewhere in the Premier Division, Rossington Main Reserves beat Bawtry Town 6-1 and a brace from Danny Bell saw Yorkshire Main triumph 2-1 at Bessacarr Development.
The league has increased in size from 11 to 25 clubs over the course of the prolonged summer break and ten of those teams were in action in Division One.
Doncaster Town beat Epworth Town Colts Development 7-4, Maltby Juniors ran out 5-1 winners against Askern Miners Development and Goole-based side South Park Rangers beat South Kirkby Colliery Reserves 5-2.
Elsewhere, AFC Bentley Development won 4-0 at Doncaster Eagles, Adwick Park Foresters claimed a 2-1 victory at GCT Doncaster A and St Josephs of Rockware Worksop beat Sprotbrough Country Club 3-1.
