Dramatic win takes Conisbrough out of drop zone

Conisbrough picked up a vital victory in their battle against the drop from the South Yorkshire League Championship in the tightest of tight clashes with Rockingham.

The Rockingham chase fell one run short to hand Conisbrough the win which lifted them out of the drop zone.

Once again Conisbrough batsman Gary Strephan was the architect of their innings, posting an unbeaten 67 with chief support coming from overseas ace Nipuna Kariyawasam with 38.

Conisbrough were all out for 198 with Nasser Rasool claiming 3-25 and Nazakat Khan 3-48.

Rockingham looked all set to reach the target with Ben Dalton opening with 30 and Tony Munyonga adding 39.

But they closed on 197-9, one run short with Joe Farmer claiming 3-29.

Sprotbrough suffered a damaging defeat in their own battle against relegation as they were beaten by Oughtibridge.

Daniel Wright opened with 40 for Sprotbrough but they could only muster 106 all out.

Ben Ladd Gibbon, Conor Snelgrove and Thomas Starkes all claimed three wickets.

Oughtibridge used three wickets to achieve the victory with Ladd Gibbon capping a strong personal performance with 34.

Wath put further daylight between themselves and the bottom two as they beat bottom side Aston Hall B.

Joel Gunn recorded 5-28 to help skittle Aston for just 131.

Wath used five wickets in their chase, which looked in doubt when they were reduced to 64-5.

Wicket keeper Jonathan Plater hit an unbeaten 56 and Samuel Thomas 37no saw them through from the point of disaster to the victory.
