The Keepmoat Stadium-based club are offering anyone setting a new UK record for the rarely-run 1,500m steeplechase at their annual Open Meeting on Saturday, April 9, a cash prize of £200.

“The money will be up for grabs in both the men’s and women’s races,” said spokesman Barry Barnes.

“Hopefully with it being so early in the season we might attract some top names including some Olympic hopefuls.”

The race was the highlight of the club’s inaugural Endurance Meeting last season but no-one seriously challenged the record on a cold, windy evening.

George Rowland, a member of Barnes’ training group, represented Nottinghamshire Under-13s in the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships at the weekend.
