'I'm trying to be responsible'

The 100m sprint world record holder had said he was quarantining in Kingston as a precaution in an Instagram post.

"Good morning everybody. Just waking up and like everybody, checked social media and saw that social media’s saying I’m confirmed to have Covid-19," he said.

“I did a test on Saturday, because I have work. I’m trying to be responsible, so I’m gonna stay in and stay here for my friends.

“Also I’m having no symptoms, so I’m going to quarantine myself and wait on the confirmation to see what is the protocol on how I should go about quarantining myself from the Ministry of Health.

“Just to be safe, I’ll quarantine myself and just take it easy.”

Jamaica has recorded 1,612 cases and 16 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Sterling has since tested negative for coronavirus and is expected to join up with Gareth Southgate's England side ahead of their Nations League fixtures against Iceland and Denmark.

Sterling would be required to return a negative test before linking up with England or Man City.

Cricketer Chris Gayle also confirmed that he had received a negative test following his attendance at the party. The West Indies legend is set to feature in the Indian Premier League, which launches in the UAE on September 19.
