Merry Little Christmas, which normally takes place at the Holy Trinity Church in Belgravia, will now take place virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. But it will still be an evening filled with musical performances, celebrity readings from their favourite Christmas book or poem and even magic acts.

Leona Lewis will star alongside magician Ben Hanlin, The D-Day Darlings, the wartime-themed group who reached the finals of Britain’s Got Talent, as well as The D-Day Juniors, song and dance troupe West End Kids and BBC Young Chorister of the year 2019 Anna Haestrup.

Leona Lewis: “The world is currently a very uncertain place and it is has impacted the lives of all children"

All the money raised from the event will go to Childline to help their frontline staff and volunteers continue to help children this Christmas.

Childline counsellors have provided more than 37,000 counselling sessions to young people about mental and emotional health during the pandemic as they’ve struggled with lockdown, school closures, cancelled exams and uncertainty over grades. Children have suffered limited access to wider support networks when their mental health has deteriorated and in extreme cases some children have reported being trapped at home with their abuser.

Some children now also face the prospect of spending a long period of time at home with their abuser during the Christmas holidays.

Leona Lewis said:” I’m thrilled to be supporting Childline’s Merry Little Christmas event this year.“The world is currently a very uncertain place and it is has impacted the lives of all children and some may not know who to turn to for help.

“This is why it is so important that Childline is here to support any young person who may be struggling.”The event takes place on December 10 from 7pm. General admission costs £20 per household, and VIP tickets, which include a selection of Christmas treats including chocolate from Lindt and mince pies from Lidl, can be purchased for £45 per household.
