'You are the heroes:" Doncaster England footballer Danny Rose donates £19,000 and free pizzas to NHS

The Premier League ace, who hails from Wheatley, sent a stack of Domino’s pizza to medics and nurses at the North Middlesex University hospital, just days after donating a whopping donation of nearly £20,000 to the same hospital.

In a video message the footballer, currently on loan at Newcastle United from Tottenham, said: “Hey everyone at North Mid Hospital.

“This is Danny Rose. I just want to say a huge thank you for everything you are doing at the moment and the hours you are putting in and more importantly, putting yourself at risk just to treat everybody in these sad and scary times we’re in.

“I just wanted to say on behalf of my colleagues you are the heroes and I think you are not getting the recognition you deserve.

“I’ve been to your hospital a few times with my club Tottenham. You are the heores. The hours and work you are putting in has not gone unnoticed.

“The best thing that we can do is stay indoors and fight it.”

Rose, 29, had earlier revealed that he had 'no problem' donating as much of his wages as necessary after top flight footballers were criticised by health secretary Matt Hancock for not contributing chunks of their salaries to help the coronavirus battle.

The hospital based in Enfield tweeted: #ThankYou Danny Rose for the hundreds of pizzas arriving for #TeamNorthMid #NHS'. They had treated Rose for an injury during his time at Tottenham.

Tottenham MP David Lammy said: “Hats off to Danny Rose for donating £19,000 to North Mid hospital, Manchester United players for donating 30% of a month's wages to the NHS, and other top footballers who are taking a lead. Fans will remember this kind of generosity for seasons to come.

Born in Doncaster in 1990, Rose first cut his teeth in the youth academy at Leeds United before joining Tottenham in 2007. He also has 29 caps for England.
