Homes and businesses in the Askern area were without water throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday and were forced to rely on bottled water supplies after a huge mains burst caused chaos.

Villagers in Campsall, Norton, Braithwaite, Fenwick and Moss were also left without water.

Now the firm has said that repairs carried out on Friday evening failed to work, causing the issue to extend across the weekend.

A spokesman said: “Over the weekend there was a significant burst in Askern, which affected supply to properties in DN5 and DN6.

"The problem was fixed and pressure resumed on Friday evening, but unfortunately the repair didn’t hold and we encountered further issues on Saturday.

“We know how inconvenient an issue like this can be – our teams have been working round the clock to fix the problem and support the local community.

"As of this morning, supply has been reinstated and pressure should be returning to normal.

Angry residents said they had been kept in the dark about the works or when supplies would be restored, while others claimed they were unable to get hold of bottled water supplies as by the time they arrived at collection points, stocks had been exhausted.
