Woman seriously injured in hit and run on busy Doncaster road last night

A woman was seriously injured by a car in a hit and run incident on a busy Doncaster road last night.

She was hurt on Warmsworth Road at just before 5pm last night, and taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment of injuries described as serious but not life threatening.

Police were called out and confirmed this morning that they were investigating the incident and treating it as a hit and run.

South Yorkshire Police said in a statement this morning: "We received a call from Yorkshire Ambulance Service at 4.43pm on March 31 alerting us to reports of a road traffic collision on Warmsworth Road in Balby.

"It is believed that a car collided with a 64 year old woman and fled the scene. The woman was taken to Northern General Hospital.

"Her injuries are believed to be serious but not life-threatening."Enquiries are continuing and officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage that could assist with enquiries.

"Please call 101 quoting incident number 784 of 31 March 2021."

The incident happened near the White Church in Balby.

The outbound carriageway of the road was closed to traffic as emergency workers took action on the scene.

Traffic into the town centre was able to carry on as normal.

Bus routes were diverted as well, with both companies, First and Stagecoach having put out announcements that the services were affected.

The incident happened at a busy time on Doncaster’s roads, just before rush hour.
