Get ready for ‘severe’ thunderstorms in South Yorkshire, weather experts warn

The Met Office has issued yellow ‘be aware’ warnings of thunderstorms in the county on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said there is ‘significant uncertainty’ about the exact location and timing of the storms.

Hide AdThe spokesperson added: “There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes and large hail.
“Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to public transport.
“Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and increased chance of accidents.
“There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.

Hide Ad“There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.”
According to the Met Office, temperatures reached widely above 30C for much of England and parts of Wales on Friday and Saturday with similar temperatures expected on Sunday.
Dan Harris, deputy chief meteorologist, said: “While the extreme heat is likely to gradually decline through next week, we are also expecting the risk of thunderstorms to increase.
“It's just too early to pinpoint the details of exactly where and when thunderstorms will occur.
