A flooding alert is in place for the River Went catchment in the area, and while river levels are falling the water on the ground from the snow and rain still poses a flood risk.

This morning (February 9) firefighters are deploying two high volume pumps to Sykehouse in Doncaster in a bid to aid the removal of the surface water.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said this is just a precaution, and existing drainage pumping arrangements are working well.

The pumps - one of which is being sent by Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue - will support the speedy removal of the water and to help reassure communities living nearby.

The fire service is working with Doncaster Council and the Environment Agency on the deployment says it expects to be in the area for around 48 hours.
