Wath reach Yorkshire Shield final | Thornensians bow out of Senior Vase

Wath on Dearne survived a late spell of pressure to secure a 15-10 win over Middlesbrough and book their place in the final of the Yorkshire Shield.

Ashley Rothery scored a try from the second row and full back Jack Whitlam added a penalty to make it 8-0 at half time.

Middlesbrough dragged themselves back into proceedings with a penalty but Wath went further ahead when left winger Ben Cairns crashed over and Whitlam converted.

But then, with time running out, Middlesbrough scored a converted try and went looking for the win, piling forward. Thankfully, the Wath back line stood firm and made sure that they made it to the final.

Wath on Dearne will face Bridlington in the final after they beat Pontefract 41-25 in extra time on Saturday.

Thornensians just missed out in their Senior Vase Northern Division final, going down 10-7 at Tarleton.

Trailing by a single try at the break, a Tom Hughes score converted by Rob Brown put Thornensians 7-5 up.

However, a late try for hosts denied them a place in the next round.
