Conisbrough fighter David Allen became a web sensation when he confronted fellow boxer David Howe at a pre-fight weigh in with socks stuffed inside his underwear - making it look like he had a huge advantage in one particular area.

Video of the 24-year-old's heavyweight's stunt went viral and was picked up by dozens of gay media websites - and he has since been innundated with messages from gay "admirers" on social media.

He said: “I seem to be pretty popular right now which is a difficult thing to get my head around really. I’m just a fat kid from Conisbrough. I don’t see anything amazing in me.

“It amazes me that people have got such an interest and they’re buying tickets to see me, people I don’t even know. I’m confused and emotional at the same time about it."

Allen, was on the undercard of the David Haye-Tony Bellew fight earlier this month and at the weigh in, stuffed a sock down his red pants - much to the amusement of the watching media and Howe himself, who made a playful grab at the impressive lunchbox in front of the cameras.

Video of the prank has been seen more than 700,000 times and he has been bombarded with messages on Twitter and Instagram since the incident, picking up a large gay following on the process.

The story has been published on various gay media websites across the globe in recent weeks.

The boxer has built a strong online following due to his hilarious, often self-deprecating, posts on social media, with more than 18,000 followers on Twitter and live videos on Instagram.

And the "sock down pants" stunt obviously worked - he stopped Sheffield's Howe inside two rounds.
