The dad said his son got on the First number 87 bus at Stainforth at 7.20am on Tuesday and saw the syringe on the floor.

He said: “People/kids need to be aware and these things need to be reported and not touched. It's disgusting.”

In this instance, however, it does not appear that anyone on the bus reported the find.

A spokesperson for First Bus in Doncaster said: “It is concerning to see an incident where a syringe has been discarded on the floor of a bus, especially when young people are travelling to school or college.

“In all circumstances where an object such as this or lost property is found on a bus, we advise travelling passengers to immediately notify the driver and they will take the appropriate action to support or manage the situation.

“We will undertake an investigation into this occurrence and view any CCTV we have available on the bus”.
