Heavy wind and rain lead to crashes on South Yorkshire roads

These shocking photos, shared by police in South Yorkshire, show the dangers of driving in heavy rain and wind.

Storms which have battered the region over the last few weeks, including Storm Jorge this weekend, have created treacherous conditions on the roads – leading to numerous crashes and road closures.

South Yorkshire Police’s Operational Support team published these photos of collisions they have attended in recent weeks as a reminder to motorists of the hazards caused by severe weather.

Thankfully, all the crashes pictured resulted in only minor injuries to the occupants, but the images of the wreckage show how they could easily have been more serious.

The BMW had spun in heavy rain, said officers, while the Ford Kuga hit the central reservation after getting caught in a strong cross wind.The final photo shows a car which crashed into a wall near Woodseats after the driver fell ill at the wheel.
