M1 disruptions expected as 70m long police convoy headed to Meadowhall from Doncaster

Police are warning travellers that there will be rush hour problems on the motorway as they transport an ‘abnormal load’.

Tomorrow (January 31), police are expected to escort two abnormal loads from Doncaster to Meadowhall.

The police convoy - which is expected to be around 70 metres long - will set off at 9am, heading down the M18 to junction 5, when it will join onto the M1.

It will exit the M1 at junction 34, by Meadowhall, onto Sheffield Road, Vulcan Road, Meadowhall Drive before finishing at Weedon Street in Sheffield.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The convoy will be around 70 metres long in total and over 5 metres wide.

“The weather forecast is looking wet and dull so please pay full attention and think before you travel the above route and be aware of officers giving instructions; these are for the safety of all involved. “

Officers have said that drivers should not attempt to overtake the convoy when it’s not on the motorway and are advising people to be cautious.

“The route has been fully surveyed and we cannot move at night or later in the day,” a spokesperson added.

“Under no circumstances should you try to overtake the convoy as it leaves the motorway as you will get blocked in and may end up with no escape route.

“We thank you in advance for your patience.”
