Posters announcing “this store is closing – everything must go” have been displayed in windows of both the Frenchgate Centre stores today.

No official announcement has been made by the chain but owner Arcadia has closed a number of other Topshop and Topman stores across the country since the start of January.

The stores have been a feature of Doncaster’s shopping scene for decades and look to be bowing out with a 70% off sale.

Topshop in Doncaster is closing down.

Since Christmas, Arcadia has also been forced to close 26 outlets inside Debenhams and the group, run by Sir Philip Green has closed down 12 Topshop stores in the wake of a tough Christmas

A total of 12 stores have shut down since it was revealed earlier this month that the Topshop and Topman store in London’s Westfield Stratford centre is closing down.

Since then Arcadia stores in Wolverhampton, Newbury, Blackburn, Bolton, Aylesbury and Worthing have closed down, The Guardian reported.

Other Arcadia sites in Carmarthen, Horsham and Blackpool are reportedly shutting down as their leases come to an end.

Topman is also closing its doors

In the past year, Arcadia has axed a number of stores after its CVAs led to the closures of 23 sites.

There are reportedly expectations of further closures linked to the planned administration of the Evans and Miss Selfridge property arm.

Last month, Green secured a £310 million mortgage deal for his flagship Topshop store in London’s Oxford Street with the US private equity company Apollo Management International, which meant Arcadia would be able to keep the store open.

Topshop has around 500 shops worldwide – of which some 300 are in the UK and started as a brand extension of the department store Peter Robinson in the 1960s.

Topman was created in the UK towards the end of the 1970s to provide a new approach to menswear retailing.

Both stores in the Frenchgate Centre now share the same retail space but in previous years had been separate stores. We have contacted Arcadia for comment.
