They also reached the final of the U12s Plate, knocking out Sheffield United Red along the way, before losing to Huddersfield Town in the final.

Team manager Craig Lambert said: “Carcroft Blue have proved that a small club from a small area really can triumph over the big city clubs.

“In that sense it can be compared to Leicester City winning the Premier League.

“It’s been a fantastic season. The girls are very good friends and they work together as a team which has been the key to success.

“I’m more than confident that our girls will give any big club out there a run for their money.

“Wayne Wilson, Dan Gough and I have had the pleasure of coaching these girls and they really are an inspiration to girls football,” he added.

“I hope there are girls out there who will look at our girls’ achievements, pick up a pair of football boots and head down to their nearest club.

“I’d encourage girls of all ages to give it a go. Girls football has really started to take off in our area and Carcroft Under 12s Blue have shown what can be achieved.”
