Thornensians underline promotion credentials in 50-0 rout

Thornensians underlined their promotion potential when they ran in eight tries on their way to a 50-0 home victory over fourth-placed Northallerton.

Thorne dominated the match from start to finish, scoring their first try after just five minutes and the bonus-winning fourth try shortly before half time.

It was a good day for the forwards, with prop Adan Smith and No 8 Ryan Pilley both touching down twice and other tries coming from the other prop Andrew Ellis, flanker Arran Holt, winger Danny Gilbert and stand-off Anthony Bull.

Wath had led at the break, but conceded three tries late in the second half – including one with the final play of the game – to see victory snatched away from them.

Winger Adam Clark had scored a first half try and stand-off Jack Whitlam kicked two penalties and a drop goal as Wath led 14-3 at half time.

Forward Joe Mitchell crashed over in the second half and Whitlam added the conversion and another penalty. However, Keighley hit back with the wind in their favour to take the points.
