Students from Westwoodside and Misterton make history by receiving music diploma

History was made by Westwoodside's Conor O'Hara and Misteron's Ella Hudspeth, from Hill House School as they became among the youngest pupils in the country to receive a prestigious Music Diploma from the London College of Music.

Achieving the qualification at only age 16 and 17, Conor and Ella can now use the letters DipLCM after their names, and have the right to wear an academic gown like their teachers.

Teachers Paul and Debbie Mellors, who combine their teaching at Hill House with their leadership of the nationally renowned BBC Open Choir of the Year Rainbow Connection, are of course, delighted with this remarkable success.

Director of Music Mark Cadman said: “The singers and their teachers have worked incredibly hard to gain these qualifications. It is practically unheard of to get these awards unless you are an adult, so this is an outstanding piece of news. We are very proud of them, and of the school choirs in which they sing.”
