The 18 students, from Hayfield School, have signed up to start their Level 3 BTECs at New College Pontefract, which is run by the New Collaborative Learning Trust, the trust behind New College Doncaster. The students will then transfer to complete their second year in Doncaster, once the college has opened in September 2017.

A spokesman for the college said: “New College Doncaster will be unique as it will be the town’s only stand-alone sixth form college for 16 – 19 year olds. This is proving a popular idea amongst students. The group from Hayfield will get a real taste of sixth form college life before we even open our doors in Doncaster.”

“Our students in Pontefract are our biggest advocates. We are planning a series of events in Doncaster and the surrounding areas where they can share their experiences with young people and parents, who might be looking at the opportunities available for the next step in their educational journey.

The sixth form college will be built in Auckley on the playing fields adjacent to Hayfield Lane and will include a sports hall and a series of sports pitches, with a construction value of around £20 million.
