First and Stagecoach suspended all their routes in the borough yesterday with some parts of the town reporting several inches of snow. Residents in Sprotbrough were reporting around five inches.

Some services were evening starting to return yesterday evening

Some residents raised concerns over the amount of gritting that has been carried out in the borough overnight, but Doncaster Council Head of Waste and Highways Infrastructure, Lee Garrett, said adverse weather overnight meant that the highways gritting team started operations once the rain ceased at 5am on Thursday 14 January – otherwise the grit/salt would wash away. Upon their return to the North Bridge depot, they proceeded to grit precautionary routes for a second time around the borough. This included Covid-19 vaccination centres in the local area.

He said last night: “We will continue to retreat / re-plough hotspot areas and priority footways. To avoid traffic delays and slowing our gritting process, please stay safe on the roads and only go out if you REALLY need to.”
