Shake-up of Doncaster bin collection days
Thousands of Doncaster residents face a bin shake-up as the council changes refuse collection days '“ for the second time in seven months.
Doncaster Council said just under 7,000 properties would be affected by the plans that are designed to make the service ‘more reliable.’
The changes, announced today, come into effect from Monday, June 6 and any residents directly affected will be contacted to advise them of the new collection day.
The shake-up comes just seven months after changes were made to bin collection days for most households in the borough – in a bid to shave £2million from the council’s annual budget.
The last change came into effect on October 5, 2015.
Following the last raft of changes Doncaster Council and waste contractors Suez have monitored the service to measure its efficiency and effectiveness, and concluded there was a slight imbalance in the workload across different weekdays.
A spokesman for Doncaster Council said today: “It has been determined that, for a minority of households, the current collection schedule does not have balanced workloads across all days, which can make it more difficult for some crews to complete their rounds while others have spare capacity.
“It is expected that, by balancing out the workload across week days, the small number of affected households will see improvements to service delivery.”
The authority’s cabinet member for communities, the voluntary sector and environment, Coun Chris McGuinness, added: “I want to make clear that these adjustments to the current waste collection service won’t affect the vast majority of households, so unless you are written to by the council and Suez to say otherwise your bin day will stay the same.
“Since the re-routing that took place in October last year, Suez has successfully completed over 99 per cent of the 6.5million scheduled collections across Doncaster.
“However, in order to make the service even more reliable Suez has recommended that they address a slight imbalance of the workload across the different weekdays that is leaving some crews stretched.
“By adjusting the collection days for some households to balance out the workload, we are aiming to improve the service even further and make it more reliable for residents.”
