Police have issued a warning over scam Royal Mail emails asking customers for their bank details

Action Fraud says it has received more than 1,700 reports over the emails which tell customers that the Royal Mail has supposedly been unable to deliver a parcel – and then asks users to provide more details, including details of their bank card.

A spokesman for Action Fraud, which is run by City of London Police, said: “Watch out for these fake Royal Mail emails. They've been reported to us over 1,700 times.

“We followed the link in one of the emails and here’s where it leads…,” with the social media post sharing a photo of the online forms people are asked to complete with bank details.

It added: “Help us remove malicious emails and websites like these by forwarding suspicious emails to: [email protected].”
