Proposed Humberside Police precept increase on the agenda

The meeting is being held at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Room One, County Hall, Cross Street, Beverley at 2pm.

Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Grove has proposed to increase the police precept for 2016/17 by 1.99 per cent (from £180.08 to £183.67 for a Band D property). This is supported by the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Medium Term Resource Strategy (MTRS) 2016/17 to 2020/21.

The PCP will consider the precept and will decide on whether to:

Support the precept without qualification or comment;

Support the precept and make recommendations; or

Veto the proposed precept.

The precept has been put forward following the Government’s spending review, which saw policing protected and budgets not cut by the expected 25 to 40 per cent.

A Safer Roads Humber update will also be provided at the meeting.

Councillor Jon Evison, chairman of Humberside Police and Crime Panel, said: “We will review the proposed 1.99 per cent Police precept increase to ensure it is appropriate as it will affect everyone across the region. After looking into the reasoning behind the proposed increase and reviewing the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Medium Term Resource Strategy, we will make a decision on whether to support it or not.”
