“It’s an horrendous run that we’re on,” said Ferguson.

“The only saving grace, with the run we’ve been on, is that we’re not in the bottom four. That’s probably the only positive, although it’s no consolation.

“The way we’re starting games and gifting goals, in both halves [is not good enough]. That’s five games now that their [the opposition’s] first shot has been a goal. I thought again we started the game quite well but we’re giving away terrible goals.

“The second one he’s got in between two centre halves and the first one he’s headed it in from three yards when Aaron’s [Taylor-Sinclair] given the ball away unnecessarily but we should still deal with it.

“The players kept going, as you’d expect, but some of the quality wasn’t what we expected.

“And yet when Tys [Nathan Tyson] scores all of a sudden we become a completely different team. We should have equalised, I thought anyway.

“We have to find a way of going ahead in a game. I know I keep saying the same thing but it’s a fact.

“But I can’t legislate for the goals we’re giving away. It’s just basic errors.”

He added: “You hold onto the positives in the sense that we’ve got ten games to go and I think we’ve got some really winnable games. There are some real six-pointers against teams around us.

“I’ve got to make sure they’re ready to go again and I’ve got to remain positive with them.”
