The site has been taken by new operators, Chris Windle’s Your Friendly Local Ltd, with the company having appointed Adam and Angela Slaney to run it.

The Sitwell Arms, owned by leading pub company and brewer Greene King, now employs almost 50 people in the community.

A major joint investment by Greene King and the operator has seen the Whiston pub’s interior take on an industrial feel with scaffolding boards and tubular steel behind the bar, as well as steel light fittings and pipework.

The inspiration for the pub’s designer Andy Buckle was to celebrate Rotherham’s strong tradition as an industrial steelworks area.

The Pleasley Road pub is now open for business and will sell craft ales, cask beers, home cooked food and boast a freshly-cooked pizza station termed ‘Urban Pizza’.

Chris Windle, whose company also runs two other Greene King pubs in Rotherham, the Droppingwell and The Colin, is excited by what the Sitwell Arms now offers.

He said: “We cannot wait for guests to see the sheer scale of what we have done here. It is fantastic to be creating so many new jobs at the pub and even during the build we used local builders and suppliers.

“The buzz ahead of us opening here was huge and I know everyone locally is really excited by the refurbishment and talking about it. This investment really sets the pub up for the future.

“This is my fifth Greene King pub now and it is brilliant both for ourselves and the community as a whole to see the vision we had for this pub made real.”

Clive Chesser, managing director for Greene King Pub Partners, said: “This is a major change for the Sitwell Arms and one we hope guests will embrace and enjoy so it can establish itself at the heart of the community.

“Chris is an experienced operator who has displayed an incredible passion for this project from the outset and this is a pub with a modern feel that celebrates the local area’s proud past.”
