Bosses said the closure came with “great sadness” and that all Christmas bookings would be cancelled, with the team contacting customers directly.

The statement added: “To everyone who has supported us over the past year and to our team for everything they’ve given, thank you.”

Another Doncaster pub has since stepped in to help those left in the lurch by the closure.

The House Martin on Wheatley Hall Road shared: “We're incredibly saddened to hear that The Hatfield Chace has closed its doors due to the difficult economic climate facing the hospitality industry.

“It's never nice seeing another local pub close, especially with Christmas just around the corner.

“If you've had a Christmas Day booking, Christmas party or festive celebration affected by the closure, please get in touch with us at The House Martin, Wheatley.

“We still have availability for Christmas Day dining and our festive events, and we'll do everything we can to help save your celebrations.”

Addressing the pub’s team, a spokesperson said: “From the kitchen and bar to front of house, cleaners and management, if you've sadly found yourself looking for work, we'd love to hear from you.

“While we can't promise everyone a job, we're happy to explore opportunities and, with your permission, share your CV with other pubs in our network to help you find your next role.

“We're all part of the same hospitality family, and when times get tough, we should be looking out for one another.

“To everyone affected, customers and staff alike, our thoughts are with you.

“Our doors are open, and we're here to help however we can.”
