EXIT POLL: Tory majority of around 80 is predicted
The exit polls are in and are predicting a Conservative government with an estimated majority of approximately 80 seats for the Conservatives.
The Ipsos MORI exit poll has just been released on the United Kingdom’s 650 seats, based on the views of 22,790 seats at 144 polling stations.
If true, this would mean the Conservatives have won their biggest majority since Margaret Thatcher’s victory in 1987.
It would also mean Labour have lost five consecutive elections, and with an estimated 191 seats, put the party on fewer seats than under Michael Foot’s leadership in 1983 when the party won 261 across the United Kingdom.
Their predictions are as follows:
Liberal Democrats: 13
Brexit Party: 0
Green Party: 1
Plaid Cymru: 3
The polls closed at 10pm, and we’ll be bringing you live updates from South Yorkshire’s counts throughout the night here.
