Doncaster Sheffield Airport: Video shows Reform UK councillor receive applause for "wonderful" question
A Reform UK councillor in Doncaster received a round-of-applause after a “wonderful piece of theatre” to challenge Mayor Ros Jones over ongoing transparency concerns surrounding Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
Councillor Neil Wood, who represents Stainforth and Barnby Dun, compared the Mayor of Doncaster’s third term, and the project to reopen Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA), to downloading a faulty computer system.
“Will the mayor agree that the above glitches should be solved so this council can avoid DonnyGate 2.0?”
The Reform UK councillor referred to Mayor Jones as “Mayor3.0”, alluding to the fact she is Doncaster’s third elected mayor; a reopened DSA as “DSA2.0”, along with “passengers2.0” and “freight3.0” to represent passenger and freight operations at a reopened DSA; and to an “app ALMO”, referring to Fly Doncaster Ltd, an arms-length management organisation (ALMO) owned by the City of Doncaster Council.
Wood finished his question, which was just over two minutes long, by asking the mayor if she agreed that “the above glitches should be solved so this council can avoid Donnygate 2.0”.
Following an applause for Cllr Wood’s question, described as a “wonderful piece of theatre” by the meeting chair, civic mayor Cllr Tim Needham, Mayor Jones said she would never allow another Donnygate to happen on her watch.
