DON VALLEY: Labour's Caroline Flint loses seat after 22 years to the Conservatives

While it was predicted to be one of the huge Labour losses of the night, the shock of the Conservatives winning the seat for the first time in the constituency’s history has sent reverberations throughout the country.

As she left the count at Doncaster’s rail college, Ms Flint was critical of Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour Party, which is forecast to receive a more crushing election defeat than that of Michael Foot’s in 1983.

The party has also lost Rother Valley, in yet another shock defeat for the party.

Don Valley was held by Ms Flint from 1997 until tonight. During her time as a Member of Parliament for the constituency, she held a number of roles under both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown's governments, including Minister for Public Health; Minister for Housing and Planning and Minister for Europe.

The results are as follows:

Caroline Louise Flint (Labour): 15,979

Mark Lindsay Alcock (Liberal Democrats): 1,907

Paul Alan Whitehurst (Brexit Party): 6,247

Chris Holmes (Yorkshire Party): 823

Nicholas Fletcher (Conservative): 19,609

Kate Needham (Green Party): 872
