The new houses will include features to make them energy efficient, cost effective to run and in line with environmental policies.

Site preparation works should begin in April and construction is expected to start in June. The first of the homes should become available in 2022.

All the new council houses will be available on an affordable rent basis and advertised through St Leger Homes.

The Council House Build Programme is worth £100m, £20m in the Housing Revenue Account and £80m from council borrowing.

Coun Glyn Jones, deputy mayor and cabinet member for housing, said: “Our efforts saw us build 400 new council homes in the previous five years and these three new sites are the first of many we will be bringing forward in the next five years which will see us build a further 500 plus new council homes.

“Given the current economic climate and the uncertainty many councils face, few local authorities will be matching our investment in new council housing.

“We mean business in Doncaster, when we say we are going to commit to delivering a range of new homes which meet the needs and wants of our residents we get on with making it happen. Our house building programme is second to none.”
